Description:

In the early 1940s, Doris Duke purchased this group of six Nasrid columns, as well as other fine examples of art from Islamic Spain (Andalusia), at the Hearst sales in New York City. Shortly thereafter, the columns were installed in the private hall leading to Shangri La’s Mughal Suite. The appearance of the private hall’s arcade and columns had previously been Indian-inspired, thereby directly complementing the Mughal Suite.
