About Museum of Islamic Art, Doha

Date of Object:

Hegira 4th century / AD 10th century

Museum Inventory Number:

GL.152

Provenance:

Iran or Egypt

Description:

It was common for glass pieces to have parallels in ceramic or, in this case, metalwork. The bird beak spout can be seen on ewers of Sasanian origin and the early Islamic period. The plant-like decoration, difficult to see from extensive weathering, is achieved by abraiding or cutting the surface of the glass once the vessel had been finished.
