Description:

According to the inscriptions it carries, which would originally have been inlaid with silver, this lamp was made to be hung in the mausoleum of the Mamluk Sultan al-Zahir Baybars in Damascus. As the construction of the mausoleum was carried out in 1277, it has been suggested that the lamp is of the same date; it is also believed that the lamp was made locally in Damascus.
