Underglazed painted fritware
The Iznik potters’ enthusiasm for nature inspired them to develop new designs and to increase the colour palette. After being inspired by Chinese blue and white, Iznik potters introduced the Baba Nakkash style. Following the Chinese tradition of blue on white, it was also sometimes reversed. The designs consisted of stylised lobed leaves with curly tips. Initially these were in different shades of blue; small touches of turquoise were added as the style developed.
