Description:

Monolithic ewer made of light-green nephrite; diplomatic gift from an early-17th-century Persian embassy to the court of Rudolf II of Habsburg to propose a military–political alliance against the Ottoman Empire during the so-called Long Turkish War. The inventory of the collection of Emperor Matthias I compiled in 1619 also lists a lid that is no longer extant.
